This is the on going record of my adventures travelling across the US to Jerome, Arizona, and my 2 month stay down there! A pilgrimage of sorts into revisiting and expanding my creativity! Why Jerome? In 2006 Rae and I came across Jerome by accident in the night driving on a crazy 158 S curve road over Mingus mountain to get to Sedona; went back to check it out the next day to explore it and I started crying standing in an art gallery there because I felt "at home".

Oct 31- After Rae...there's Halloween!

Ok so I need a separate entry for this day; From one extreme to another:

Vegas AM:
I leave Rae at the airport...so sad to leave him behind. It was tough knowing that he was in the security line whilst I was driving the lonely highway back to our hotel.

6;30Am; back at SouthPoint Casino Hotel I thought all would be quiet?...NO ~ the casino was alive and kicking ...with ...you guessed it ...Cowboys! playing at the Roulette tables, sitting at the bars (see the photo in the previous blog entry), gals with cowgirl hats and coffees in hand ( instead of beers at this time of day) at the slot machines, and I go back to bed to sleep in the huge King bed bymyself..lost in the huge duvet....ahhhh! ZZZzzz....

  • 9:30am; I try to log on and email...not working properly...give up and decide to check out of this place and go for breakfast at the Mandalay Casino.

  • Noon; by the time I park at the Mandalay and write down my spot so I can find it again...I find a place for breakfast buffet...but it is now over and I need to have a 'lunch' instead of breakfast. What an all day meal it was for me! I had fish assortment...making a bun with smoked salmon & cheese and vegies for a trip snack and stash it in my purse. Then had a bit of turkey and beef tamale with a great salad and finished off with some delicious pastries to finish the great coffee they were serving.

  • Dessert #2: the Mandalay Roulette table...only here you had to play all of your 15 $ and I was not willing to invest more...won once and lost all the 2nd time. Not the same luck I had the last time I was in Vegas!

  • Then went to Best Buy to buy a hard drive to back-up my photos & videos. Called Sam for advice on the size..." just see how much you've already used on your laptop"...13 gigs already! Why didn't I think of that!?

  • Hit the road for Hoover dam and spent the $7 to park so I could see over the edge...can't just drive by again :-) Wow ..very high! and the new bridge is spectacular; the construction workers must have not an ounce of fear in their bones to work so high. I took photos of the 2 huge glorious winged bronze sculptures ....like sentries for the dam: http://www.usbr.gov/lc/region/pao/brochures/wingedfigures.pdf
  • (pge 6 of the article is a good summary of these " Winged Figures of the Republic")
  • the long beautiful drive down the HWY 93 with the moon rising and the sun causing an orange glow on the mountain range to my left.

  • Nap at a gas station in Kingman and I buy a Redbull for the next part of my journey...the 4 lane I-40 ...yes I get to go 75 mph! I love driving beside the trucks now...I was afraid of them before I left on my trip ...but I like them now; at night their lights are cool to look at ...and they are easy to share the road with.

  • Gas station in Prescott: Grab a tea & I change into my Halloween costume before my trip over the mountain into Jerome...the bustier is tied a bit tight, but it should keep me awake :)

  • After a cool mountain drive on the 127+ S curves I parked at an unknown spot close to the action in Jerome, put on my mask and joined the Halloween Party in full swing at Ghost Hall, with my $10 entry fee. Everyone was there in full costume! Like I said before, people here participate fully & know how to party here ...that is why I needed a separate blog for this day so I could get lots of pics loaded to share with you! From Lisa & Anne's H1-N1 costume ~ to Karen & Larry's Hippy couple; Lisa & her husband as the Cougar & Mormon Priest; Neon Man to the Bee swarm. Later we walked up to the Spirit Room and danced to the Sugar Thieves...a cool R&B band till they closed at 1am ...
